The Canon EOS 550D is an entry level Digital SLR released in March 2010. The society has a 550D with 18-135mm IS kit Lens available (as well as a selection of additional lenses) for all members to borrow free of charge.

When booking out the kit though the society we supply as standard:

  • Canon 550D
  • 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens
  • 8GB SD Card

You can also book out additional lenses and flashes.

To book this kit out, go to the website, log in and click "Book Equipment" on the left hand side navigation panel. From there you can navigate to the equipment that you wish to borrow and follow the instructions to reserve it for the dates that you need.

550D Tips & Tricks

To change the White Balance:

  • Press WB on the back of the camera
  • Select the appropriate white balance setting for the lighting conditions
  • Press SET to store the setting

To change the sensitivity (ISO setting):

  • Press ISO on the top of the camera
  • Select the appropriate sensitivity setting for the lighting conditions
  • Press SET to store the setting

To Change the Shutter Speed:

  • In Tv (shutter priority) or M (manual) modes, use the control wheel.

To Change the Aperture:

  • In Av (aperture priority) mode, use the control wheel.
  • In M (manual) mode, press the Av button on the back of the camera whilst turning the control wheel.

To Record a Video

  • Something about focusing
  • In video mode, press the red button to the right of the viewfinder to start/stop recording.
