1. Short Talks evening, Thursday the 11th of February, 8pm, The Mandela Bar, The Union Building
Next Thursday will be another short talks evening featuring members of the committee and hopefully a few of you guys and girls to. The idea of this evening is to show the diversity of photography and generally inspire people to get out and take photos. Confirmed talks so far are Niall’s pick of the photos he likes best and Rich’s pick of websites and podcasts for photographers, plus many more are yet to be confirmed.
If you would like to give a talk we would love it, just send an email to vp@ubuphotosoc.com and tell us what you would like to talk about. Each talk lasts about 5-10 minutes, so why not show off your photography or talk about the images you love? The last short talks evening was a great chilled evening with a really nice atmosphere and everyone found themselves learning loads about many different types of photography, so come along to next Thursday and learn some more!
2. Seb Rogers External Speaker Talk, Thursday the 18th of February, MR5D, The Union Building
On Thursday the 18th professional photographer Seb Rogers will be coming to talk to the PhotoSoc to raise money for the Bristol Childrens Hospital. Seb is the top mountain bike photographer in the UK regularly shooting cover images and
stories for many bike magazines and companies. As Seb puts it: “themes may include why there are only six different ways to shoot a bike, how to inject a bit of pzazz into your bike pictures and why the weather forecast is almost always wrong. Or not, as the case may be.” To check out some of Seb’s work head over to his website www.sebrogers.co.uk and check out his great blog http://sebrogers.typepad.com/seb_rogers_blog/ .
Seb has very kindly asked us to donate any expenses money we might have paid him to Bristol Children Hospital and we have decided to make the whole event a fundraising event. So entry is free but we hope that you will all donate generously and also buy some of the cookies and muffins that will probably be for sale. To have a look at what the Childrens Hospital does take a look here: http://www.uhbristol.nhs.uk/your-hospitals/bristol-royal-hospital-for-children.html . It should be a great evening and a fantastic way to raise money, so please put this date in your diary and tell your friends.
3. Competition reminder - Black and White - Deadline Sunday, 7th of February
Just a reminder that our Black and White Competition is still running. You still have a week to send us your mono pictures - the deadline is the 7th of February. So send us your high resolution picture with your name as a file name and remember that your picture cannot be older than 18 months.
Also for all of you who are eagerly awaiting the results of the Story theme we will give you more details tomorrow!
4. Coffee Social - Wednesday the 3rd of February, 4pm Papajis on Whiteladies Road
As usual our coffee social is at Papajis, so come along and enjoy a great cup of tea!
5. Motion - Student Photography Contest - Entry deadline 22nd February
The Student's Union is running a competition and they're quite simply looking for the "best Motion picture". You can win £50 cash and we would be more than happy for a PhotoSoc member to show everyone else how it's done. All the information you need can be found here: http://ubu.org.uk/motion
That all for now, enjoy your weekend!
